ALLIANCE4SOY

Align Market Transformation for Sustainable Soy

>

Vision and broader mission
What do we have to do, to achieve 100% responsible soy products for food, feed and other applications into and inside Europe by 2020? This was the opening question of the Syntegration brainstorm event, organised by the Round Table on Responsible Soy (RTRS) in January 2016 and conducted by the Suisse Malik Management institute with 31 “soy” experts of 26 organisations.
The result of this initiative is a rich strategic roadmap with actions to achieve the above goal, including an extended impact analysis:
“Only a coalition of the willing can turn the current reality of the soy industry into the envisioned future (see opening question)”. Furthermore, create a “Responsible Soy Alliance” and “Determine Multi-Stakeholder Governance” have the greatest systemic impact, according Malik. This is the broader mission of the Alliance4Soy: gradually build alliances and facilitate governance alignments.

Personal mission Lieven Callewaert
I was active as EU Representative for RTRS from 2014 to 2017.  In order to have a stronger impact on the strategic orientations of RTRS, I decided to quit my role as EU Representative and to postulate for a RTRS Board position.
Therefore, I invited Brand owners and Food processors to join a “group of Individual RTRS Members (Alliance4Soy subscribers)” and designate me as a “Designated Executive Board member”, as allowed in the statues of RTRS.
Following companies joined me as initial subscribers: UNILEVER, ARLA FOODS, FRIESLAND-CAMPINA, MARS, HKSCAN, VANDEMOORTELE, VION, LANTMANNEN.
I was elected as a Board member during the RTRS General Assembly in Lille (May 2018). And beginning of 2019, the Board appointed me as Vice-President for the Industry-Trade & Finance constituency of RTRS.
Meanwhile, the RTRS grew in market uptake during 2 subsequent years! (30% in 2018; 40% in 2019). Many changes were initiated whereof a roadmap for the beyond 2020 strategy which will be presented during the next General Assembly (June 25th Frankfurt). Besides, I was the driver and chair of the “Collaborative Soy Initiative”.
My aim is to continue this mission. Therefore, I’m candidate to renew my Board activities during the next elections (GA June 25th).
